Bishop Wanok Sounds Alarm on Youth Substance Abuse and Violence

By Social Communications Department Lira Diocese.

Lira, Uganda – Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, Bishop of Lira Diocese, has expressed deep concern over the rampant substance abuse among youth, citing the need for divine intervention.

Speaking during the funeral of John Boniface Odwee, father of Moroto County MP Samuel Okwir Odwee, Bishop Wanok emphasized that this destructive trend has led many young individuals astray, contributing to the rise of notorious gangs known as “Owuwuk” in various villages.

The Bishop urged the community to pray for a unified and respectful political environment, free from nepotism that hinders merit-based employment opportunities.

He also encouraged the people of Lango to prioritize dialogue over physical confrontations.

Health Concerns Raised

Dr. Nickson Onyanga shed light on the cause of Odwee’s death, highlighting the increasing prevalence of kidney failure, liver, and heart diseases. He stressed the importance of regular medical checkups and advised against excessive alcohol consumption and fatty food intake.

Call to Action

Bishop Wanok’s remarks serve as a wake-up call for the community to address these pressing issues and work towards a more harmonious and healthy society.
