ALLOW JESUS TO CLEANSE US

Feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica in Rome

John 2:13-22

Today’s Gospel depicts Jesus entering the Temple and driving the money changers out with a whip and the animals they were selling for profit. As He did so, He cried out, “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.” If Jesus was upset about the pollution of the temple during his earthly ministry, what does he think about the state of our sinful lives? If we have become comfortable with the sins we commit and our hearts are far from God, we too need cleansing from the idols that have defiled us.

Dear Jesus, purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Cleanse me from my deep sins andhabits. Make me a temple worthy of your holy name. Amen.
