Lira Diocese Catechist Survives being stabbed by thugs
Last weekend on Sunday 18th June 2023, a humble Catechist from Lira Cathedral Parish in Lira Diocese survived being stabbed by a group of thugs as he rod to his duty station in the early morning.
Patrick Stella Okwir, an assistant Catechist at St. John Paul II chapel , Obutowelo, Lira Cathedral Parish was on Sunday morning hijacked by a gang of atleast five goons as he sloped down the Aduku road stage in Lira on his 6km journey to the mentioned church above where he serves in a hurry for the 6:09am service that he was to conduct.
” At around 5:45am I was sloping down the Aduku road stage when there appeared 5young men infront of me, of which some grabbed my bicycle from the front and others surrounded me” narrated Catechist Okwir who appeared so traumatized by the experience.
He continued and explained that they pushed him off the bicycle and he was forced to lay on his back and one of them pulled a knife and tried to stab him. In much fear tried telling them about himself being a Catechist and was hurrying for the 6am service. When they heard his pleas, they came to their senses and spared him leaving all they had grabbed, except his money.
The attackers had grabbed the bag that contained his cassock, prayer books and other materials he was going to use in the morning service which they later on left with him on hearing his cry and being a common man.
On his way to the chapel before he lost consciousness due to the shock of this incidence, he got a phone assistance where he made urgent phonecalls to the chapel leaders who met him on nearing the chapel, rescued him and took him to the nearest clinic.
According to the reports we got, Mr. Okwir had been discharged to go back to his home in Burlobo, nursing the minor injuries he had attained during the scuffle.
We wish him a quickest recovery and pray the Lord protects him and all his servants at risk of such risky attacks.
