UJCC To Celebrate 60 Years Anniversary In August

Bishop Anthony Zziwa the chairperson of the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) and Bishop of Mityana Catholic Diocese has revealed that UJCC will be celebrating 60 years of existence on 30th August 2023.
He said this on Good Friday morning during the joint ecunemical public way of the cross that was commemorated at Old Kampala SS playground inKampala.
The walk of faith was held under the Theme “Do Good, Seek Justice, Prepare for Judgement,” Isiah 1:17, Hebrews 9:27.
“We would like to celebrate the jubilee in the spirit of our founders, the Three Archbishops,” Bishop Zziwa said.
UJCC is a faith based ecumenical organization that was established in 1963,registered as a trustee under the Trustees Incorporation Act and founded by Archbishops Joseph Kiwanuka of the Catholic Church, Leslie Brown of the Church of Uganda and Theodorous Nankyama of the Orthodox Church.
The council comprises of the Church of Uganda, The Roman Catholic Church and the Uganda Orthodox Church, which together constitute about 78% of Uganda’s population.
On the same note the Mityana Diocese Catholic Bishop asked Ugandans to build the country basing on sustainable peace, Justice, Openness, Mutual respect and commitment towards the common good.
He also noted the concern on increasing environmental degradation and called upon responsible government agencies to do their best and address the concerns.
“UJCC is concerned about the rate at which water bodies, forests and swamps are being destroyed. The littering of towns swamps and roads with plastic wastes is very warning,” Bishop Zziwa mentioned.
Rt. Rev. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu the Archbishop of the church of Uganda said corruption is one of the major causes of poor service delivery in Uganda. He said Uganda has good laws for tackling corruption but still corruption Is still on the increase.
“Some rich government officials are stealing from poor civilians and we urge the government to demonstrate the political will to fight the evil by taking action against people implicated in corruption scandals and abuse of office,” Bishop Kazimba said.
He later thanked members of Parliament for passing the Anti-Homosexuality bill and asked president Museveni to append his signature on the bill.
Metropolitan Yonenmus Muzeeyi the Archbishop of the Orthodox church in Uganda decried the increasing level of inequality among Ugandans.
He said; Many people are living in poverty and without stable food security. The prices of essential commodities are very high and unemployment among the youths is alarming.
Metropolitan Muzeeyi added that land wrangles and land grabbing are still going on in Uganda unlawful evictions have affected the poor who can not defend themselves.
“We appeal to the government to use land laws and policies to protect the people and their land. Whatever development that is planned by the government on people’s land should be carried out according to the law”.We wish you a Happy Easter.
