Martyr and Comboni Missionary Fr.Ferracin honored with Mass and Magnificent activities in Apac.

A Solemn Memorial Mass was celebrated in Apac District, Uganda yesterday 9th August in honor of Father Egidio Ferracin, a Comboni Missionary who was Martyred thirty Seven years Ago on 4th August, 1987.
This follows a plan that was set by the Catholic church leaders in the region to annually celebrate the Martyr and Missionary on 4th August, which was postponed to 9th August for this year due to some unavoidable circumstances.
At St. Francis Of Assisi Subparish Ayago, in Akokoro Sub-county, Apac District , the Celebration and mass was led by Rev. Fr. Denis Okello Odyek the parish administrator who, in his Homily ,reminded the faithful of God’s Love to those who die righteously after keeping their faith. He also tasked Christians to pick lessons from the shining example of Fr. Egidio’s Martyrdom so that they can attract God’s love for keeping their faith on him.
Led by a wondrous Choir From Abongokongo zone of the parish which lively added Taste to the Solemnity and beauty of the occasion with their angelic singing, Thousands of Christians who encountered the faith during Fr. Ferracin’s ministerial days from all walks of life, attended serving as a testament to Fr. Ferracin’s Dedication to his faith and mission.
In addition to that, the event was also marked by the Baptism of One hundred Seventy (170) Infants registered from various zones of the Subparish as a symbol of A New Life generation at the Priest’s Martyrdom spot.
More personalities in attendance were esteemed clergy and lay leaders, including:
- Fr. Moses Opio, parish Curate
- Fr. Michael Oguzu, Parish Priest of Alenga Parish, where Fr. Egidio was serving at the time of his Martyrdom.
- Fr. George Humble Opio, Dean of Apac Deanery
- Hon. Jovino Rose Akaki, Head of Laity, Lira Diocese
- Several catechist. And Delegates of Christians from Kiryandongo District.
Plans are underway to renovate the Priest’s Martyrdom site into a Prayer and Meditation garden and to also serve as a Resting place for travelers who would to switch to a prayer mood on their journeys.
