St. Cecilia Choir Lubaga Cathedral celebrates 100 years of Worship through Music
Kampala, Uganda – November 2024 – St. Cecilia Choir of Lubaga Cathedral celebrated a major milestone on the Solemnity of Christ the King Sunday, marking 100 years of serving the Lord through singing, praising, and worshiping.
The centennial celebrations kicked off with a procession led by a brass band from the parking area to the cathedral. The main celebrant of the Holy Mass was Pope Nuncio Emeritus Archbishop Augustine Kasujja.
In his homily, Archbishop Kasujja congratulated the board and members of St. Cecilia Choir on their milestone achievements since their establishment in November 1924. He praised the choir for being instrumental in leading the faithful in praise and worship, both within and outside the cathedral.
The Archbishop encouraged the choir members to emulate the example of their patron saint, St. Cecilia, who bravely used her musical talents to praise God. He thanked the choir for their beautiful voices, melodies, and diverse membership, comprising individuals from various walks of life.
Archbishop Kasujja recalled Pope Francis’s message to choir members, emphasizing the importance of their role in facilitating worship and prayer among the faithful. He noted that the choir’s music and songs are a form of evangelization, bearing witness to the depth of God’s word and touching people’s hearts.
The chairperson of the centennial choir, Paul Mukoota Nsubuga, expressed pride in the choir’s service to the Lord and gratitude to those who have made their 100-year journey possible. He looked forward to the choir continuing to serve as an example to others.
Lubaga Cathedral Administrator Fr. Achilles Mayanja Ssali and Fr. Anthony Aliddeki Musaala, responsible for choirs and music at the cathedral, congratulated the jubilant choir members on their achievement, acknowledging the significance of their service and their contribution to uplifting the image of Lubaga Cathedral.
The celebrations continued with a luncheon, performances by the choir, a live band, speeches, and other events, guided by the Master of Ceremonies, Deograthias Ssebadduka Kipala, the choir’s publicity secretary.
