University of the Sacred Heart Gulu Prepares to Welcome New Chancellor in Historic Ceremony
The University of the Sacred Heart Gulu, known for its unique approach of integrating education with pastoral ministry, is set to install its second Chancellor, His Grace Raphael P’mony Wokorach, in a historic ceremony. The institution, which aims to shape students into better individuals beyond their professional skills, continues to uphold its mission of holistic education.
The university’s Founder Emeritus, Archbishop John Baptist Odama, once famously said, “We are supposed to be the light in the dark of society.” This guiding principle has shaped the university’s vision since its inception. The incoming Chancellor, His Grace Raphael P’mony Wokorach, shares a similar passion, viewing education as a powerful tool for evangelization and a means of bearing holistic witness to God. His approach is expected to bring a fresh perspective to northern Uganda and the country at large.

Speaking on the preparations, Vice Chancellor Rev.Fr. Dr. Jino O Mwaka noted that the process has been ongoing since His Grace Wokorach took possession of the ecclesiastical province and the See of Gulu following his appointment. “The preparations are not just starting now. His Grace was introduced to the school’s administration and management from the day he took over. He has already met with the leadership council, and what is coming up is the celebration and formalization of his installation,” Fr. Mwaka explained.
The University of the Sacred Heart Gulu is ready to welcome and install His Grace Wokorach as its second Chancellor, marking a significant milestone in its history. The ceremony will also feature a formal handover, as the retired and founding Chancellor, Archbishop John Baptist Odama, passes the mantle to His Grace Wokorach, mirroring the transition that occurred during the episcopal installation.

Fr. Mwaka emphasized the importance of the event, stating, “We are making history, and history progresses with significant events like this. We warmly invite our alumni, students, and the entire university community to witness and participate in this historic moment and help write the history of this institution.”
