Mapeera-Nabulagala Parish Commemorates Baptism and Marriage of Saint Mathias Mulumba

MAPEERA-NABULAGALA PARISH COMMEMORATES FIRST BAPTISM AND MARRIAGE OF SAINT MATHIAS MULUMBA.

Mapeera-Nabulagala parish in conjunction with Jinja diocese have today commemorated 140 years since the first baptism and marriage of their patron saint Matia Mulumba occurred at the Nabulagala premises.

Presiding over the Mass, Rt Rev. Charles Martin Wamika, the Bishop of Jinja diocese, pointed out that God blessed man when He said,” a man must leave his parents and be joined with his wife in Holy Matrimony. He added that, the core key of marriage is forgiveness”. The Bishop reminded the congregation that there are always steps to be taken in case of any misunderstanding and that marriage should always be adjustable in whatever situations. He further cautioned that when making marriage vows, the couple should mean each and every word they say with utmost commitment. He thus requested all those on the holy ground to tap into the blessings of Matrimony.

Flanked by the entire clergy present, the Bishop guided hundreds of catholic couples into the renewal of marriage vows. He later on administered hand bands for the ladies as a sign of recommitment. 

Dignitaries present were; The East African Superior of Holy Cross Fathers-Rev.Fr. Cyprian Binaka and entourage, Head-Apostles of Jesus Rev.Fr. Sylivester and entourage, Sevite Fathers, Sisters of St. Francis, Sisters of Mary -Kakamega, Daughters of Mary-Bwanda, Fr. Joseph Kizito-Education Secretary -Jinja diocese, Fr. Godfrey Kigumba -diocesan treasurer-Jinja parish, Fr. Denis Wanzala Ngobi and Fr. John Mary Ddungu among others.

Mathias Mulumba is remembered as a man who struggled all the way to holy matrimony as he started as a Moslem when the first religion was introduced, and when Protestants came, he again converted, then finally when Catholics came, he converted for good, received all the necessary sacraments including holy matrimony.
