Uganda Martyrs Day Celebrated in Boston, USA
Ugandan, Rwandan, and other East Africans gathered in Archdiocese of Boston Cathedral in the US to celebrate the Uganda Martyrs Day. The annual celebration that ordinarily falls on the 3rd of June is celebrated by Catholics in the US a week later so as to allow a Ugandan bishop time to travel to the US.
This year’s Uganda Martyrs Day was presided over by His Eminence Cardinal Antoine Kambanda the Archbishop of Kigali Rwanda. Cardinal Kambanda grew up in Luwero Diocese of Uganda. The Cathedral was filled almost to capacity, and more than 50 priests from Uganda and Rwanda Co-celebrated at the mass.
The Ugandan Catholic Community in Boston has a full time Ugandan priest assigned by the Uganda Episcopal Conference who oversees the spiritual needs of the Ugandans in the area. The Catholic community has a weekly mass at St Mary’s Church at Waltham in Boston.
