DESCRIPTION OF THE UNIVERSITY, MISSION AND VISION

About the University

University of the Sacred Heart Gulu (USHG) is a private university established by the Catholic Archdiocese of Gulu and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education. It is located west of Gulu City near St. Joseph Catholic Cathedral Gulu. The University is dedicated to academic excellence for job creation, re-building, and holistic socio-economic development. It has a strong institutional commitment to community outreach and engagement with the local community and the larger world community in the understanding and addressing the needs of humanity. The University has regulated small class sizes where each student receives personalized attention. The University has got in place state of the art facilities that include good internet connectivity, computer laboratory and library that offer conducive learning environment.

Mission: To generate, accumulate and transfer knowledge, skills and experience for the holistic growth and development of individual and society.

LOCATION

USHG is located along Pope John Paul II Road, 3KM from Gulu-Juba Road, Bardege – Layibi division, For God Parish in Gulu Mission, Gulu City. The University of the Sacred Heart has been established particularly so as to contribute more effectively to addressing the needs for faster and more meaningful healing, reconciliation, moral integrity, rebuilding and changing the lives of people in post-conflict situations in Uganda and neighbouring countries e.g. South Sudan, Eastern Congo, etc. who have shared experiences on conflict and war; and to promote and ensure quality higher education in northern Uganda by raising standards in teaching and learning as well as developing unique academic programs to address identified needs in society.

RATIONALE

The inspiration that leads to the vision of a university defines and shapes the rationale for its creation. A profound reflection on the experiences of humanity, particularly in the context of conflicts as experiences in Uganda (not only the most recent in Northern Uganda), South Sudan, Congo and elsewhere indicate that there are a number of fundamental issues in the society which are not only manifested but also made worse by the experience of war. These require prolonged and progressive and sustained efforts to address and the USH is being established to contribute in this direction.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

The University has been accredited with two Faculties and 7 programs listed as follows:

A. Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS)

Bachelor of Counselling Psychology (BCP) – 3 Years

Requirement:

Passed UACE with a minimum of two principal passes obtained at the same sitting and at least five passes at UCE or its equivalent or Holder of a relevant Diploma with at least a credit/Second class from a recognised Institution or Holder of a degree from a recognised Institution or Passed mature age exams set by University of the Sacred Heart Gulu

Tuition: UGX. 950,000.

Bachelor of Applied Information Technology (BAIT) – 3 Years

Requirement

Two principal passes at UACE in any two subjects at the same sitting or its equivalent or at least five passes at UCE obtained at same sitting or its equivalent, or Holders of ordinary Diploma with at least a Credit/Second class Pass or its equivalent, or Holders of a degree from a recognised institution, or passed the mature age exams set by University of the Sacred Heart Gulu.

Tuition: UGX. 980,000.

Bachelor of Information Systems (BIS) – 3 Years

Requirements:

Two Principal Passes at UACE or its equivalent with credit in English and Maths at O’ Level, Or Passed exams set by University of the Sacred Heart Gulu, or Second class/Credit Diploma in any computing aspects or second class/credit Diploma with business or development aspects with at least a credit pass in Maths and English at O’ Level.

Tuition: UGX. 980,000

B. Faculty of Management science (FAMS)

Bachelor of Agri-Systems Management (BSM) – 3 Years

Requirements:

Passed UACE or its equivalent with at least two principal passes in Economics, Geography, Chemistry, Biology, CRE, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Physics, food, and Nutrition, Engineering & metal work, and Maths obtained at the same sitting or at least a Second class/credit Diploma or equivalent in Agriculture, business, Education, Animal husbandry, veterinary, Crop husbandry, Environment, or other related disciplines, or after passing the mature Age entry exams set and approved by the Senate of University of the Sacred Heart Gulu or a degree holder from a recognised institution.

Tuition: UGX. 920,000

Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) – 3 Years (In the third year, students will specialise in Accounting, Finance and Banking, or Marketing and Insurance options)

Requirements

A Principal pass at UACE in Economics or Mathematics and a principal pass in any other A’ Level subject or a Credit/Second class Diploma in business related discipline or a Bachelor’s degree in any field or passed the mature age exams set by University of the Sacred Heart Gulu.

Tuition: UGX. 985,0006.

Postgraduate Diploma in Business Intelligence and Data Analytics (PGD BIA) – 1 Year

Requirement

A holder of a degree from an accredited degree awarding.
