Rt. Rev. Lawrence Mukasa Installed as Third Bishop of Kasana-Luweero Diocese in Grand Ceremony
The Kasana-Luweero Diocese has welcomed its third bishop, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Lawrence Mukasa, in a grand ceremony held today. Christians lined the Luweero Kampala highway to witness the installation of the 66-year-old cleric, who was appointed by Pope Francis as the diocese’s new bishop earlier this year.
In a glorious celebration that began with mass at 10am, Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere consecrated the new bishop at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Fatima Kasana Luweero. In his homily as a chief preacher and consecrator, Archbishop Ssemogerere thanked Bishop Mukasa for his humbleness and humility in accepting the appointment from the Pope.
He then appealed to the priests and Christians of Kasana Luweero Diocese to welcome, cooperate with, and love Bishop Mukasa even more than they previously did when he was the bishop of the same diocese before being appointed as the Archbishop of Kampala archdiocese.
Archbishop Ssemogerere further requested the people to be loyal, supportive, and good to their new bishop so that he may do the will of God and bring good tidings to the people of God in Kasana Luweero.
In his speech, Rev. Monsignor Xavier Mpanga, who has been serving as the Diocesan administrator, also thanked the newly consecrated bishop and appealed to him to serve God in the office of A Bishop. He thanked all the people of Kasana Luweero and Kiyinda Mityana Dioceses for their cooperation that brought success to the event.
The ceremony was attended by numerous guests, including Bishops, Priests, religious officials from various Dioceses, the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda Archbishop Luigi Bianco, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale of Kasese Diocese, political and cultural leaders such as the Vice President of Uganda, H.E. Jessica Alupo, ministers, and the Katiikiro of Buganda Kingdom, Peter Charles Mayiga.
Among other gifts, the newly consecrated bishop received a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser from the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, which was presented to him by Jessica Alupo on behalf of the President. Archbishop Ssemogerere promised total support and cooperation to the new bishop from himself and all fellow Bishops to help him enjoy his new ministry as a Bishop among the entire Episcopal conference of Uganda.
