Bishop Ssemogerere – Press statement on the Eldery and grandparents Day
The Bishop of Kasana-Luwero Catholic Diocese who also happens to be the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Kampala Rt Reverend Paul Ssemogerere has appealed to all people to take extraordinary care of the elderly in their families and in their communities.Addressing the press about the forthcoming Day of the Elderly that was announced by Pope Francis, Bishop Ssemogerere noted that while the elderly may appear weak and unhealthy, they are a huge source of wisdom needed by societies. The bishop urged the public to pray for the elderly as they fufill their earthly responsibilities.Bishop Ssemogerere explained that this year’s Day of the Elderly in the Archdiocese of Kampala will be celebrated on the 25th of July at Lubaga Cathedral starting with mass at 9am led by Bishop Ssemogerere himself. Given that the country is under lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak, only a few people will be allowed in Lubaga Cathedral for the celebration.Bishop Ssemogerere encouraged the public to celebrate the day in their homes and at work, and also join the mass via media and other online platforms. The bishop particularly encouraged the extension of special acts of mercy and kindness to the elderly on their day.
