Lira, Uganda – His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok, Bishop of Lira Diocese, has called upon the Lango community to take initiative and engage in productive activities to combat poverty.

During the installation ceremony of Rev. Fr. Alfred Okello Senior as the new Parish Priest of Agweng Catholic Parish, Bishop Wanok attributed the region’s persistent poverty to a lack of initiative and reliance on politicians for support.

“The community’s struggles are largely due to unproductive pursuits and waiting for handouts from politicians,” Bishop Wanok said.

“It’s time for everyone to focus on fruitful endeavors, rather than begging.

“He encouraged catechists to lead by example and engage in agricultural activities, rather than passively waiting for assistance.

Bishop Wanok also emphasized the importance of education, challenging rural parents to take responsibility for their children’s care during school holidays.

“I urge you to work closely with Rev. Fr. Alfred Okello Senior to spread the Gospel and promote holistic development,” Bishop Wanok said.

The installation ceremony marked a new chapter for Agweng Catholic Parish, with Rev. Fr. Okello Senior pledging to serve the community with dedication.
