BROKEN MARRIAGE – EMMANUEL MARIO ZIEGBE

Broken Marriage
By Emmanuel Mario Ziegbe

Recently, I have been involved in counselling some young couples contemplating separation and divorce. Some of my brothers have also shared with me some cases they too have been handling.
And one common denominator is that many young couples want to move out of their marriage. They want to call it quit. Many are married for just 2 to 3 years, some even only for five months, and they are tired.
Tired? So fast? What went wrong?
My parents are married for more than 30 years. And I know many old couples all around me, and I think they are persevering in love and faithfulness.
This causes me to think, to reflect: What went wrong? Why can’t young couples persevere in their marriages today? Why are there many cases of divorce and separation today? In fact, I know a couple that got married in October last year, but they are now separated.
What is the problem? Is it inadequate catechesis? Is it faulty marriage-prep classes? Is it societal pressure? Is it impatience?
What do you think?
