CACEMCHO lights Up Kenya with a Marian Concert
Uganda’s Catholic Centenary Memorial Choir ( CACEMCHO) has staged their annual 2023 Marian performance in Nairobi, Kenya.
The 45years anniversary celebration additional concert entitled ” DIXIT MARIA Concert” took place at St. Monica Noonkopir Catholic Parish, Ngong Diocese, Nairobi City of Kenya last week on Friday ( 20th October 2023). It was massively graced by an impressive number of parishioners, Catholics from all over Ngong Diocese, and all ardent Choir members who animate masses at the hosting parish St. Monica, priests and church leaders.
Directed, Conducted and accompanied by Anthony Kambugu, Vincent Katende and Michael Mukasa one of the Old members and accompanists of this choir, the choir sang a variety of hymns including amongst others ; Come, Holy Spirit, Come composed by Dr. Nicholas Azza, Dixit Maria, Fr. Anthony Okello’s angelically harmonized Magnificat, Ogenze N’Ekitiibwa by White Fathers, Ave Maristella, Daily Daily Sing to Mary and switched to then sweetly catch their Kenyan audience with Swahili Marian hymns like Ee Bikira Mwezaji With an Ave Maria, Yesu Nitumaini Langu, Jina Maria to mention but a few, which caught the audience’s attention on how beautiful the choir performed them uniquely to how they sang them, thus taking them rised up to sing along with praising gestures in the Swahili hymns.
The Christians didn’t wait to enjoy the sweet voices, but decided to rise up and sing and dance along with the choir, backing up into the Swahili hymns and later the on, the Hallelujah Chorus that climaxed the performance in Glorious Hallelujahs of this hymn that is extracted in one of the Hymns listed in Handel’s Messiah!
On Saturday morning, a day after their concert, the Catholic Centenary Memorial choir CACEMCHO joined parishioners led by the parish priest and church leaders of St. Monica Noonkopir Catholic Parish, to plant trees at the neighboring community Subparish church St. Bakhita Subparish that is under the St. Monica parish. The choir members planted trees to keep make a sign of rememberance in their three days Evangelization trip to Nairobi particularly in St. Monica Noonkopir Catholic Parish community, something every parishioner was happy for and grateful for, amongst the Ugandan Choir.
In remarks and speeches, chairperson of the Choir Mr. Kasasa Peterson Ssemugabi on behalf of the choir, expressed joy and thankfulness first, to the hosts especially the serving Parish priests and the parish leaders for accepting to host the choir and parishioners for taking general charge of the choir members in providing transport, shelter, food, drinks and all necessary assistance that helped the choir manage it’s stay in Kenya.
In a special way, he thanked the assistant parish priest Fr. Godfrey who ushered the choir since Thursday morning on their arrival and other faith based duties he assigned to them in line with their visit like animating mass, leading the Rosary sessions and adoration before the Concert day.
Information: The Catholic Centenary Memorial Choir ” CACEMCHO” annually holds the Marian songs performance in the month of October at The Sacred Heart Cathedral Lubaga Kampala Archdiocese, and in a special way, the choir organized and took the performance shared with the people in Kenya, St. Monica Noonkopir Catholic Parish Ngong Diocese Nairobi City of Kenya.
