CARDINAL EMMANUEL WAMALA MARKS 30 YEARS OF SERVICE AS CATHOLIC CHURCH LEADER

Kampala, Uganda – November 26, 2024 – Today, His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala celebrates a milestone 30 years of dedicated service to the Catholic Church as a Cardinal.

To commemorate this occasion, the St. Charles Lubaga Catholic community at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) extended their 20th-anniversary celebration of full Catholic presence in the institute to honor Cardinal Wamala, whom they regard as the greatest architect of their community.

During the ceremony held at Hannlon Gardens, Nsambya, MUBS Chaplain Msgr. Dr. Lawrence Ssemusu expressed heartfelt gratitude to Cardinal Wamala for appointing him to establish the Catholic chaplaincy 20 years ago. He noted that Cardinal Wamala’s vision and support have yielded a bountiful harvest, and they treasure and honor him for his selfless contribution to their community.

Msgr. Ssemusu recalled that Cardinal Wamala visited MUBS 20 years ago and requested land to build a Catholic chaplaincy. The school accepted his request, and Cardinal Wamala broke ground for the Catholic home on March 15, 2004.

Cardinal Wamala, in his remarks, thanked the Catholic community at MUBS, led by Msgr. Ssemusu, for their remarkable work in mobilizing students to love and serve their mother church. He blessed them and expressed appreciation for their love and gifts. The Cardinal emphasized that the title of Cardinal is not his alone but belongs to the faithful, who should embrace it with pride.

The celebration was attended by distinguished guests, including Fr. Dr. Raphael Ddamba, Fr. Jerome Luweero, and Mrs. Emily Kitto Mwaka, Head of Laity, Kampala Archdiocese.
