Catholic catechist drowns in the lake

It has been an unfortunate morning today in Kabale Catholic Diocese as a renowned Catholic Catechist drowned in Lake Bunyonyo.

The Late Mr Kizabona Nafutali was a Catechist at Kayanga Catholic Church, Murambo Parish, Butanda Sub-County in Kabale district. Kabale Catholic Diocese.

SSP Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesperson stated that on Monday morning 19th July at around 7am the deceased’s local canoe lost balance in the middle of the lake capsized and he drowned.

Police was immediately notified but only to find that the victim had no protective gears thus losing balance on water. Efforts by the Marine police to retrieve the body are underway in order to give the deceased a descent send-off.

Lake Bunyonyi is located at 1,962 meters above sea level, about 26 km long and 7 km wide which makes it the deepest lake in Uganda and the second deepest lake in Africa.
