Memorial of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Priest

Mt 14:1-12

JESUS HAS NOT PROMISED SKIES ALWAYS BLUE

Being faithful to God does not guarantee us a life free of suffering. Sometimes suffering just is; and sometimes suffering is a consequence of being faithful. When our faith calls us to speak truth to power and to stand against the wickedness in the world, suffering becomes inevitable. The imprisonment and eventual beheading of John the Baptist shows this truth clearly to us.

Jesus has not promised us a trouble-free life, but a happily ever after here on earth. Friends, whatever youface this day, remember that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

Lord Jesus, thank you for the example and encouragement of the many men and women of faith, who have run the same spiritual race before me. May their faithful witness amidst hardships, give me encouragement and determination to follow in their steps, to the praise and glory of your name. Amen.
