Fr. Muwonge Highlights the pilgrims about the forthcoming Uganda Martyr’s Day
In the interview and interaction that Ugandan Catholics Online media team had with Fr. Joseph Mukasa Muwonge on Thursday 19th May 2022 at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine , Namugongo; Fr. Muwonge expressed his joy of thanks to the Missionaries Fr. Simeon Lourdel Mapeera and Brother Amans, among others who preached a message that inspired the Ugandan men and this was the message that turned them into Holy martyrs whose sacrifice we celebrate being the seed for our faith, accepting to die for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
“The honor of the sacrifice of the Martyrs remains a challenge to each one of Us, and that’s a call for us to imitate their example such that our struggle in faith is not in vain but a fruitful spiritual struggle” Fr. Muwonge added.
Rev. Fr.Joseph Mukasa Muwonge is the head and promoter of the Devotion of the Uganda Martyrs in Kampala Archdiocese.
Reminding about the night before the final execution of the Martyrs, Fr.Muwonge said, the Chief executioner, Mukajanga was heard singing: ” enda z’abazadde zinakaaba…enda z’abazadde zinasiinda” translated as: wombs of the mothers shall wail, mourn and cry.
This was a mockery song that informed those who hard him singing about the execution of the Martyrs the next day. But for this, the these men were strong and firm with their hope to die because of faith in the living God, with braveness they were not worried because of death but instead smiling for the crown that awaited them in Heaven. Therefore the braveness and strong faith of the martyrs should teach us and show us the rewards of Heaven, without looking at the suffering on the earth and the struggles of the world, and that is Faith.
He informed all the journeying pilgrims, and those who shall join the celebration of the Martyrs day both physically and virtually to not only just celebrate, but pray faithfully to God to increase faith in them like the martyrs, such that every annual celebration becomes a counted blessing with both physical and spiritual fruitfulness as a family of God, renewed and rooted in Christ, through the sacrifice of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda.
Fr.Muwonge announced the first arrivals as the Bushenyi and Mbarara pilgrims, with a few who live around the Shrine area, Namugongo who are now getting spiritually prepared for the day through the sacrament of Penance at the shrine. He prayed for all other massive pilgrims who have began their journeys to arrive safely for the Mega celebration that will be led and animated by the Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal with the Ordinary of the Diocese Rt.Rev. Robert Muhiirwa.
Fr.Muwonge added by informing and reminding the faithful about the Novena of the Holy Martyrs Of Uganda that will begin on 25th May 2022, a prayer that prepares Christians for the Celebration on 3rd June. He also advised the pilgrims to obediently listen to the instructions of the Security persons, leaders and organisers on their arrivals and stay at the shrine for safety and smartness during their stay at the Martyrs Shrine.
He concluded expressing his joy and Thanksgiving to God for the glorious gift of the Holy Martyrs, being a blessing to the Country Uganda and to all the faithful all around d the world, thus calling on all ,to join the family of God in the Celebration on 3rd June 2022, and wishing God’s blessings to all.
