World mission Sunday mass celebration Uganda

Kabaale, Luweero: Christians of Kabaale Subparish, Bugongo Parish in Kasana–Luweero Diocese joined the rest of the world on Sunday, October 19, 2025, to celebrate World Mission Sunday, under the global theme inspired by Pope Leo XIV, “Missionaries of Hope in Today’s World.” The day’s celebration was led by Fr. Eria Kayonga, who echoed the Pope’s message urging all Christians to unite in prayer and material support for missionary work across the world.

In his homily, Fr. Kayonga reminded the faithful that every baptized Christian is a missionary, called to share the love of Christ beyond boundaries. “We are all missionaries of hope,” he said, “and our mission begins right where we live , in our families, workplaces, and communities.” He emphasized that parents hold a vital role as the first evangelizers of their children, shaping them in faith and moral values that reflect the Gospel in daily life.

Reflecting on Pope Leo’s message, the priest urged believers to live out their faith not only in words but through compassionate action. “To be missionaries of hope means to witness to the Gospel by the way we live, forgive, and love,” Fr. Kayonga said, calling for renewed commitment to prayer, generosity, and unity in the Church’s missionary mandate. The celebration was marked with joyful singing, offertory for mission support, and prayers for missionaries serving in challenging parts of the world.

World Mission Sunday is an annual Catholic event that takes place on the second to last Sunday of October, where the global Church prays and raises funds for its mission work. It is a day of solidarity for supporting missionaries who work in challenging conditions, with donations going toward projects like building churches, schools, and clinics, as well as providing vital aid and education in mission territories. The event also serves as a reminder that all Christians are called to be “missionaries of hope” and share God’s love.
