Kabale Diocese Celebrates Jubilee Year with Corporal Works of Mercy

Story by Kabale Diocese

On March 8, 2025, Kabale Diocese, through Rubanda Deanery, distributed food items to hospitals and prisons in Rubanda District as part of the Jubilee Year 2025 celebrations. Beneficiaries included Muko Health Centre IV, Rubanda Government Prisons, and Rubanda Primary Health Care, with each facility receiving bags of posho, rice, soap, millet flour, and salt.

The initiative began with a Mass at Muko Health Centre IV, followed by food distribution to all patients present. The team then proceeded to Rubanda Government Prisons and concluded at Rubanda Primary Health Care. Namirembe Juliet, Assistant In-Charge of Maternity at Muko Health Centre IV, and Sister Eustinah Twebembere, Facility Administrator for Rubanda Primary Health Care, praised Kabale Diocese for the donation. They highlighted how the gesture brought joy to patients, many of whom lacked food, coinciding with International Women’s Day celebrations.

At Rubanda Government Prison, Officer-in-Charge Zakia thanked the diocese for visiting, sharing God’s word, and offering hope to inmates through the donation. She also requested a spiritual leader to visit weekly, emphasizing the prisoners’ need for spiritual support.

Fr. Ireneus Tibemanya, Parish Priest of Kishanje Parish and Dean of Rubanda Deanery, explained that this charity aligns with the Jubilee Year 2025 objectives declared by Pope Francis, observed every 25 years in the Catholic Church. He expressed gratitude to the Rubanda Deanery community for their contributions and noted that this event precedes other planned activities, including the opening of Deanery Church principal doors and pilgrimages to Kibeho (Rwanda), Namugongo (Kampala), and Rome (Italy).

Rev. Fr. Fidel Ndagijimana, Pastoral Coordinator for Kabale Diocese, announced plans to extend food relief to other deaneries. He emphasized that these efforts reflect the Corporal Works of Mercy and Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 25:31-46. He encouraged continued support for the needy and wished everyone a blessed Jubilee Year and fruitful Lenten season.
