Kampala Archdiocese celebrates 56th Anniversary, Archbishop invested with Pallium

On Sunday the 30th of October the Archdiocese of Kampala celebrated at Lubaga Cathedral its 56th Anniversary. At the same occasion the new Archbishop of Kampala Paul Ssemogerere was invested with the Archbishop’s Pallium by the Papal Nuncio to Uganda Archbishop Luigi Bianco.

The celebrations began at 10am with the investiture ceremony, followed by the sacrifice of the Holy Mass.
In the homily, the main celebrant Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere thanked His Excellency Luigi Bianco for the important papal duties he executes in Uganda, and he also thanked him for performing the investiture rite. Additionally he thanked all who accompanied him to Rome to collect the Pallium from the Holy Father Pope Francis.

In his reflection on the day’s readings, Archbishop Ssemogerere challenged the faithful to seek Christ and ask him to heal them of any weaknesses in the same way Christ healed a crippled man.

Head of Laity of Kampala Archdiocese Mr. Aloysius Allan Kalanzi welcomed all the clergy, religious men and women, and the different dignitaries who attended the occasion. He congratulated the Archbishop for receiving the pallium which is a symbol of his role as a shepherd and leader. Mr Kalanzi particularly thanked all the lay faithful for their support towards the Kampala archdiocesan programs such as the erection of new parishes. Mr. Kalanzi cautioned the congregation about the outbreak of the Ebola virus in Mubende and Kasanda districts, warning them to be vigilant since the two districts under siege are not too far from Kampala city.
