Kasana-Luweero Diocese sets date for the Silver Jubilee celebration


The diocese today has held it’s first press conference a head of the diocesan Silver Jubilee celebrations since being established as a diocese in 1997.

In attendance included;
Diocesan Administrator Msgr Francis Xavier Mpanga ,Pastoral Coordinator Fr. Denis Ssebuggwaawo, Chairman Silver Jubilee Organizing Committee Fr. Dr. Lawrence Kizito Kimbowa,Chairperson Publicity Sub-committee Mrs Sarah Kiggundu Zabali, Chairperson Finance Sub-Committee Mr Kayise Chrizestom, Chairperson Secretariat Sub-Committee Mr. Moses Kyambadde and Leader of the Laity Mr Boniface Ssentongo.

In a press conference conducted at the Bishop’s Residence in Kasana Luweero, the Diocesan Administrator announced to the press that the celebrations will take place on 6th march 2022. He also explained as to why the Diocese is celebrating the Jubilee namely; Growth of Parishes From 10 parishes to 21 Parishes , the number of Priests has also increased From 27 priests to 72 Priests, the Population of Laity in the Diocese has grown from 170000 to 280000, increase in the receiving of sacraments such as baptism, confirmation and holy Matrimony, Infrastructural development such as schools namely nandere Minor seminary.

Rev Fr Dr Lawrence kimbowa Kizito the Chairman Organising Committee thanked the Catholic community in Uganda especially Kampala Archdiocese for the continued support they have rendered to the celebrations and development of the diocese. Fr Kizito also Unveiled the Activities and developments that have been done at the diocese to spear head the celebrations.

A hotel has been established, A new Arch at the entrance of the cathedral is being established both of them will be blessed and opened up on 6th March 2022, construction of the silver Jubilee lane.

In the development made, on 13th February A new Parish was opened named Kamira Parish.

The organizing committee gave 1st March 2022 as a day for the Youths and children to have their own celebrations to enable them decrease number in attendance due to the standard operating procedures amidst COVID-19. A Friendly Match between the Members of Parliament and the Diocesan Priests has been organized in the evening of 1st March.

Chairperson Finance informed the press that the celebration is budgeted for about 1.2billion shillings which has enabled the constructions of the hotel and the Arch, part of money is also being used in preparation of the choir to animate that day.

He continued to thank everyone who has contributed towards the celebrations such as individuals, friends and companies, he appealed for more support since 40% of the money is not yet got.

The head of laity Encouraged Christians to continue supporting towards the silver Celebrations. He also informed the press few people have been invited including All bishops in Uganda, government dignatories and lay faithful. He called upon those who haven’t been Invited to stay home and follow the function through different Media houses from Home.

On the Issue of Security, they gave assurance that security will been tightened up to the maximum on that day to avoid any disturbance
