Mbarara Archdiocese celebrates the Day of the Elderly and Grandparents

Mbarara- The Catholic Archdiocese of Mbarara joined the Universal Catholic Church on Sunday 25th July 2021 to celebrate the World Day of the Elderly and Grandparents. The mass at Nyamitanga Cathedral in Mbarara City was presided by His Grace Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha, the Archbishop of Mbarara.

Preaching at the Cathedral, Archbishop Bainomugisha reiterated Pope Francis’ message about the need to love and to care for the elderly. Preaching on the miracle of Jesus feeding masses on five loaves and two fish, the Archbishop asked the Christians to always have something in hand to give to God to bless and multiply instead of coming to God empty-handed. He implored the Christians to love one another, share what they have, and especially consider the elderly. The Archbishop asked the elderly to share their wisdom with the young about life and especially prayer.

The Archbishop thanked the Lord for protecting his people against COVID 19 and he particularly encouraged the Congregation to be vigilant through following safety precautions against Covid-19.

The day will be celebrated Every year on the 4th sunday of July the sunday nearest to the feast of Joachim and Anne grandparents of Jesus starting with a novena. This year it was celebrated on 25th July 2021.
