Monsignor Alex Mukasa Matovu Laid to rest at Rubaga Cathedral

It was a sombre mood as the catholic church laid to rest one of its longest-serving priest, Msgr Alex Mukasa Matovu.The burial, took place in the priest’s graveyard at Rubaga Cathedral, preceded by a requiem mass, led by the Apostolic Administrator of Kampala Archdiocese, Rt. Rev.Bishop Paul Ssemogerere.

At 85 years of age, Monsignor Alex Mukasa Matovu passed on at Nsambya hospital on Wednesday (10th November). He served in different offices of the catholic church since the 1960s when he was ordained priest.

Bishop Paul Ssemogerere thanked the Lord for the life he has given the deceased and also praised him for being faithful throughout his journey as a priest and all his talents he shared with the Church.

Further on, the Bishop called upon the Christians to be strengthened by the hope of resurrection. “Monsignor Alex Mukasa Matovu carried his cross up to the Calvary, He served faithfully in all positions he had” Bishop Ssemogerere Said

Bishop Paul Ssemogerere also sent his condolences to the family,priests and caretakers.

Bishop Emeritus Mathias Sekamanya described Msgr Alex as person who had love and faith in whatever he did.

Bishop Emeritus of Kasese Diocese Egidio Nkaijanabwo described him as a strong, healthy and hardworking person.

Present at the final send off was Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, Monsignors and were joined by a huge congregation to take part in his requiem mass after which he was laid to rest at the cathedral clergy Cemetery.

Mgr Alex Mukasa Matovu Born 10.2.1936 at Entebbe Bugonga, attended primary schools in Gayaaza, Kavumba and Nnaddangira. Joined Bukalasa seminary 1950-1955. Katigondo Seminary 1956-59. Sherbrooke Canada 1958-1962. Ordained in Montreal Canada 17.6.1962. First appointment as curate at Mubende 1962-64. Kijaguzo PP (1964-69). Lubaga PP (1969-70). Lateran University Rome (1970-74). Rector Ggaba Seminary (1974-81). Christ King PP (1981-84). Vicar General (1981-86). Sec.General Ug. Ep.Conf.(1989-96). Namugongo Shrine PP (1996-98). Rector St. Mbaaga Sem. (1998-2008). Senior Sec. Chancery 2008 till lately at Nnabbingo Priests’ Centre ..Died 10.11.2021. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
