Priesthood is a call to service – Papal Nuncio to Uganda Luigi Bianco reminds Christians
The Pope’s Nuncio to Uganda Archbishop Luigi Bianco on the 29th October 2022 last week reminded the people of God that the call to the priesthood is a call to service, and not to prestige. The Archbishop made the remarks while preaching at an ordination ceremony that was held at St Denis Ssebuggwaawo Holy Cross Catholic Parish, Archdiocese of Kampala.
The three Holy Cross religious who were ordained were Deacon Gideon Muriithi Njeri who became a priest; and Seminarians Charles Bunjako and Emmanuel Agaba who were ordained deacons. Father Gideon Muriithi comes from Holy Cross Parish Dandora in the Archdiocese of Nairobi Kenya; while Deacon Charles Bunjako comes from Kitovu Cathedral Parish in Masaka Diocese. Deacon Emmanuel Agaba hails from St Tereza Parish Kinyarugonjo in Hoima Diocese. The Nuncio reminded the newly ordained to stay close to the people of God, serve them with love and generosity, and lead them to sanctity.

At the same ceremony the Regional Superior of the Congregation of Holy Cross in East Africa Father Cyprian Binaka asked parents to send more young men to join the Congregation of Holy Cross so as to serve in God’s vineyard. Father Gideon Muriithi on behalf of the newly ordained expressed gratitude to God who led them to His holy altar, and also thanked those who have supported them along the formation journey. Father Muriithi promised further on behalf of the newly ordained to serve selflessly all of God’s people.
