St. Mary’s National Major seminary, Ggaba celebrates 50years, Bishop Zziwa asks seminarians to keep up the Excellency and candles burning
Ggaba, Kampala: The National theological seminary, Ggaba has celebrated 50years of Excellency and glorious priestly formation since its foundation in 1970.
The celebration took place yesterday Saturday 12th November 2022 at the seminary grounds at Ggaba, Kampala and began at 10am with a sacrifice of holy mass led by Rt. Rev. Anthony Zziwa who is the chairman of Uganda Episcopal Conference and bishop of Kiyinda Mityana diocese, accompanied by the entire uganda episcopal body, archbishops, priests where most of these are Old students of the seminary.
Something to note is that this celebration was supposed to be held two years ago but kept on hold because of the Covid -19 pandemic that hit the country Uganda and the world.
Bishop Zziwa, as he delivered the homily of the day congratulated the seminarians, priests, bishops and all the clergy in a special way the old students of the seminary upon the journey that has led to the celebration of the golden jubilee, and thanked God for the protection and love upon the seminary of Ggaba.
He thanked all the rectors right from the first administrator of the seminary Bishop McCauley, Msgr. Paul Mukasa the first rector up to the current rector Rev. Fr. Lazarus Luyinda, and all the benefactors acknowledging the great work and fruitful efforts they have rendered for the Excellency of the seminary in fulfilling its purpose as an institution of producing pastoral minded priests where as of today the seminary has produced more than 2000 priests and 19 bishops.
He also thanked seminarians and old students of Ggaba seminary who didn’t make it to the priesthood, thou for they have continuously become beautiful trustworthy exemplary disciplined individuals in their communities both homes, private and public sectors of the country and abroad thus keeping the good frame of their Alma mater Ggaba seminary.
Among the guests at the function including archbishops of the four Ecclesiastical provinces in Uganda and bishops, was the chief guest His Excellency Archbishop Luigi Bianco the papal nuncio to Uganda also congratulated the rectors, staff, old students, seminarians, and benefactors upon the milestone of 50years and thanked God for upholding the Seminary through the intercession of Mary.
Msgr. Kauta the secretary general of the episcopal conference also announced the recently concluded plenary meeting of bishops in Uganda that was held on Friday 11th November where the election of new leadership committee of the episcopal conference of Uganda was made and he announced several bishops from various diocese and archdiocese being elected to different positions replacing other and himself being restored and re – elected as the secretary general of the conference.
He concluded asking all media houses who were present, to take note of the first hand information from the episcopal conference of Uganda, and be able to share it to the public.
