A Joyful Surprise: Newly Ordained Priest Gifted with a Car by Parishioners in Kyenjojo

Parish leadership and parishioners of St. John The Baptist Ibooroga Catholic Parish in Katooke, Kyenjojo, surprised and gifted their newly ordained priest, Rev. Fr. George Byangabu Atwooki, with a brand new car. The gift was presented during Fr. George’s first Thanksgiving mass at his ancestral home in Katooke, following his ordination to priesthood with five other priests and three deacons. The ordination ceremony took place on July 22, 2023, at St. Adolf Ludigo Tibeyalirwa Katoosa Catholic Parish, officiated by Bishop Robert Muhiirwa of Fort Portal Diocese.

The parish leaders expressed their intention to provide the car to assist Fr. George in his pastoral duties, particularly in reaching distant Christians and administering sacraments to the sick. They expressed gratitude for the ordination of Fr. George, the first priest from their parish, and acknowledged the incomparable joy they felt.

Fr. George humbly thanked the parish priest, parish leadership, and all the Christians for the wonderful gift, which he dedicated to the greater glory of God. He pledged his full commitment to serving the Lord and the community as a priest, while requesting their continued prayers for him.

He expressed gratitude to the bishop for accepting him and granting him priestly orders, as well as for the support extended to him, his fellow ordinands, and seminarians during their formation. Reflecting on his success, he acknowledged friends who did not make it to the seminary due to various circumstances and exclaimed, “Ninyowe oha!” meaning, “Who am I, Lord!”

Fr. George also thanked his parents, particularly his mother and elder brother, Mr. Nyerere Julius, for their unwavering support throughout his education, from his early days at Nyakasura School to his graduation from St. Mbaaga’s Seminary. He expressed his heartfelt prayers for God’s blessings upon them and a peaceful rest for their father’s soul, who passed away when they were young children.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude to Hon. Tom Butime, who attended the function despite his busy schedule as an honorable minister, honoring their invitation and providing support.

Currently, Rev. Fr. George is awaiting his appointment from the bishop to commence his service in the designated location.
