Congregation of St. Joseph the Worker Elects Brother Eugene Bwambale as New Superior General

The Brothers of St. Joseph the Worker in the Diocese of Fort Portal have concluded their chapter, electing a new leadership team. Rev. Brother Eugene Bwambale Africana has been named Superior General, succeeding Rev. Brother Aloysius Kiiza, who served in the role for six years.

The new leadership council includes Rev. Brother John Atwebembere as Vice Superior General, Rev. Brother Boniface Mujuni as 1st Councillor, Rev. Brother Hagen’Imana Anaclet as 2nd Councillor, and Brother Moses Mugisha as 3rd Councillor.

Following the election, held at the Saaka Novitiate, Brother Bwambale posed for a photo alongside Brother Boniface Mujuni, Bishop Robert Muhiirwa, and outgoing Superior General Brother Kiiza.


In a statement dated March 20, 2025, Brother Kiiza praised the peaceful election process and urged the congregation to pray for the new leadership as they prepare to assume their responsibilities. He also announced plans for an official handover ceremony, with details to be shared later.

Founded in 1973 by Rt. Rev. Serapio Magambo Abwooli in the Diocese of Fort Portal, Uganda, the Congregation of the Brothers of St. Joseph the Worker is a diocesan order inspired by the Holy Spirit. The brothers live a simple, communal life of prayer, guided by the Gospel counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience through private promises. Their charism emphasizes the dignity of human labor and service to others.
