The oldest priest in Soroti Catholic Diocese Rev. Fr. Leonard Elungat celebrates 84 years of life today.
Background of the Priest
Born in 23/7/1938
He Started school in 1943,Toroma boys
Joined seminary Achilet then Nagongera as one of the pioneers in 1952.
Joined Nyenga in 1956 for syntax
Joined Gaba in 1958
He was Ordained Deacon in 1965 and Priest in 1966.
PLACEMENTS
1966 He was appointed to Achilet Parish as Curate
1967 transferred to St. Austin Mbale as curate and later Parish Priest,1972 started the new parish of Namatala (running both parishes). The same year he started Diocesan garage and was incharge of buying cars for the diocese, later on also did 1 year course in motor vehicle mechanics.
1972-1985 was appointed Episcopal vicar for Bugisu and Pallisa
He was transferred to Bukedea in 1985, was made Episcopal Vicar for Kumi and Bukedea
In 1986 was transferred to Kachumbala where he was till 2004.
During this period when Rt. Rev. Erasmus Wandera was as out for treatment he took care of the diocese for 6 months
2004-2012 then transferred to St. Peter’s seminary to teach latin,during this time he was made Episcopal vicar for Religious of SCD
In 2017 he celebrated Golden Jubilee as Priest.
From 2012 todate He is Assistant Parish Priest at St. Kizito Parish Katine and also Youth Chaplain at the Parish.
In an interview with Ugandan Catholics Online, He encourages the young generation always to be sincere, to tell the truth so as to be saved and also to work in a team to achieve better goals in life
